Split and the Krka Waterfalls

The first port of call on our P&O Oceana cruise was the historic Split.  While here we took the opportunity to visit the Krka National Park waterfalls.

Split

Split is a town on Croatia’s coast, known for the Diocletian’s Palace which has stood since erected in the 4th century.  It is the second largest city in Croatia and at its centre is a Cathedral and numerous shops, bars, cafes, hotels and houses.

Wondering through the twisting, winding narrow streets of Split is a great experience.  It has a great marina area with lots of nice yachts and boats – all within walking distance of the shops, bars and sights of Split.

The ship docked about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Split, so is easily accessible and even if you only have an hour or two to spare it is worth a look around.  We had booked an excursion with P&O to visit the Krka National Park, so we were up early as this was a 6.5 hour trip, but it did allow us a few hours to explore Split afterwards.

Krka National Park Waterfalls

If you were following us on Twitter or Instagram, you would have seen some of the wonderful sights we saw while in the Krka NP and Split.

The Park took about 1.5-2 hours to get to by bus, our guide Suzie was amazing telling us all about the history of Split and Croatia, really passionate about her home country.

Once at the Park, we explored the waterfalls along the longer path, meeting the group at the bottom of the falls about an hour or so later.  We had enough time to sample some of the local meats and cheeses before getting onboard our boat to take us down the river to meet our bus.  Our video below can also be found on our YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/holidaysatsea
