Ibis Budget Southampton – Pre Cruse hotel review

Living 5 hours from Southampton, it isn’t always practical to travel there the morning of our cruise, especially when it’s on a short cruise. We were going on our Ventura cruise so had a look online for a hotel and came across the Ibis Budget, part of the Accor Hotel group

Location

The hotel is located on West Quay Road in Southampton – it’s near Ikea, so a walk to West Quay, the High Street or to Mayflower Park is all within a 20-minute stroll.

Great value

The basic double room cost us £46 for a night, room only. Parking is available on site for £7 a night. Being such good value we arranged for 4 nights parking as this would save us the CPS port parking which would work out more expensive.

This is an ideal hotel for a pre cruise or post cruise stay.

There is a large car park which is shared between this hotel, the Ibis and Novatel – there are ample spaces available.

Check in was fast and efficient, greeted by a really friendly member of staff giving us all the information. When she took payment for our parking she advised she would give us one night free which we thought was really nice of them.

We had booked direct on the Accor website as the prices on there are the best price you will find online due to their ‘Best price guarantee’.

Our Room

We were given a 4th floor room, a standard Ibis Budget room with a double bed, a TV and small table.  It always makes me giggle how the shower is in the bedroom!

The room was clean and tidy, really modern looking with some funky lighting all around the room. We didn’t hear any noise from outside or our neighbours.  We had enough space to store our clothes for the following day and our cases were placed under the table in the corner.

Food & Drink

The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout, as well as free tea, coffee and hot chocolate which is available in the reception area. Also in the reception area are a selection of soft drinks, alcoholic drinks as well as some snack foods and chocolates.

The hotel also has a Pizza service, for £6.95 you can order from a selection of Pizzas, with alcohol starting from £2.50 you wouldn’t even need to leave the premises – but you are so close to town it would be criminal not to explore Southampton.

A full continental breakfast is offered from only £5.50 – we didn’t try this as we thought we would be eating enough while on the cruise.

Getting to the Port

We used West Quay Cars to get from the hotel to port and back. The cost was about £6 each way.  We always use West Quay Cars while in Southampton – they are always there within minutes of ordering and you also get a text message telling you the car’s Make, Model, Number plate and tracking info. Contact details for can be found on their website: http://www.westquaycars.com

Final thought’s

So there you have it, if you are after a cheap and very cheerful room for the night, with onsite parking and free Wi-Fi, you cant go wrong with booking Ibis Budget – I know we will be booking there again!

You can book your stay on the Accor Hotel group website by clicking below, and remember when booking direct they offer a ‘Best price guarantee’ so you know you wont find the same cheaper elsewhere:

We stayed at the Ibis Budget Southampton in November 2017 in a standard double room, on an advance non-refundable booking. All views are our own – the hotel were unaware we would be writing this review and therefore the 1 night free parking was not offered as an incentive in return for a good review.
